Learn Advanced Standard Actions in Adobe Captivate in Less Than 5 Minutes

An advanced standard action is a sequence of actions that triggers one or more events.  So a standard action forces the user to click something (either an object on your screen that you have named) in order for a change in your course content. This allows you to put a lot of information on one slide without overwhelming your learners.

When you create an advanced action, it becomes available for use anywhere in the project; however, it doesn’t run on it’s own, you have to create the advanced action and then attach it to the button.

This tutorial is for the more advanced users, you should aready know how to accomplish basic tasks in Adobe Captivate such as:
  1. How to import objects (buttons, smart shapes, text boxes etc.) onto you slide
  2. How to name objects on your slide
  3. How to make objects invisible when user enters the slide
  4. How to group objects on your timeline
Let’s say your goal is to display certain images and text boxes when the user clicks a button. You'll have to hide any other image/text caption that is on the slide. And you want the button to turn gray, indicating to the learner that they have completed that task.

This tutorial will demonstrate step-by-step instructions on how to create and apply Standard Advanced Actions in Adobe Captivate.

  2. Anita,

I am trying to validate a TEB for a single word. As long as the contents include the word error or errors (would be even better if it validated errors correctly since it contains error). I created an advanced action with a conditional saying "If TEB contains error or if TEB contains errors, then continue" If I type error, it works. If I type "Any error messages?", it doesn't. I want it to continue as long as the TEB contains the word error, no matter what eles I type in. Can this be done? Thanks.
