Adobe Captivate 7.0.1 - Update NOW

I'm blown away by some of the new features of Adobe Captivate 7.0.1.

Adobe just came out with a FREE patch and if you haven't already updated. Do it NOW, believe me when I say, it's awesome!

One of my favorite new features is the ability to copy/paste advanced actions (AA) (and shared actions) to another project and all the actions will stick.

Previously if you copied and pasted slides into a new project, you'd loose all your advanced actions. And as you know creating advanced actions can be very time consuming.

Just a few days ago a project I've been working with wouldn't publish, I decided to give the copy/paste into a new project a whirl. And everything worked, all the advanced actions and it published! This saved me a huge amount of time troubleshooting or redoing advanced actions.

OMG, I am thrilled that you can duplicate and change where the decision blocks go. Now, if you're not using AA yet or are new to AA, you may not understand how amazing this is, but for those of you who are you who are using multiple decision blocks in captivate you know that captivate uses them as top to bottom and left to right in order.

So if you wanted to add more decisions later, previously you couldn't without having to redo the entire action because there was no way to move the decision blocks around.
Now there is not only a way to move them around, but a way to duplicate them. This will save you tons of valuable time.

And there is more, you can even preview all of your conditions: If, Actions and Else statements. AMAZING!!!

Additionally, Adobe has added some new actions that will save you time
because you don't have to write advanced actions, such as: Toggle, lock and unlock the TOC, Show and Hide the TOC, Pause, Exit, Increment and Decrement.

Another favorite of mine is the swatch panel. To open the swatch panel go to Window > Swatches. The swatch panel will show up in the Properties group on the right.

And more enhancements that will make developing your eLearning courses easier and more interactive for your students

  • Support for Print and Save in Notes Interaction

  • The Millionaire game

  • Reporting variable usage

  • Locking Size and Position of objects This allows you to make changes  to the object in the Properties Inspector (like colors, characters, format etc...), it simply locks the place size of and position of the object so you can't move it.
To lock the Size and Position using the check box in the Properties Inspector under Transform pane or by clicking once the lock in the timeline, it shows as blue with arrows around it (click twice to get the original black lock, which will lock all the Properties. You'll also see the blue lock on the object on the slide in the lower left corner.

Not only that but Adobe provided some amazing bug fixes my two favorite are:
  1. Now smart shape buttons will function when publishing using Scalable on HTLM5 (mobile devices) and
  2. The Table of Contents scroll bar now works in HTLM5 in overlay output
There are more fixes that make your captivating life easier, but these two make publishing to mobile devices way more seamless.

Congratulations to the Adobe Captivate team for creating a fantastic product and working so diligently to make our wishes come true.                                                                                                       For a complete list of new features and bug fixes click on the PDF image.
Note: sometimes when solutions or enhancements are introduced other problems may occur. I can assure you that the Adobe Captivate team makes every effort to test and use outside testers in an attempt to alleviate these issues from occuring, but bugs still may occur.

Often times when problems occur it is our own fault; so, if something goes wrong, please do your own troubleshooting first. If you can't figure it out, you can ask questions in the Adobe Captivate Community forum or on the LinkedIn captivate groups. Or you can email adobe help directly.

Happy Captivating!

    2. Hello. Do you have tips for troubleshooting the Youtube and Web interactions? I can't seem to get it to work properly through the preview or publishing options using Captivate 7.

    3. Hi Robert. I'll need more detail. Not sure what you are doing. Those interactions work for me.
